Flowers

Delicate petals
With a sharp defense
A pleasured fragrance
Dark green leaves that catch the sun
Vibrant red pedals catch the eye
Ready to bloom in July
This wonderful find is to be shared
They stay strong, even when the wind blows
These are none other than the magnificent rose

All different colors
Made from the rainbow
In the moving air, the petals flow
Known for its beauty
Possibly among loved ones favorites
Symbolizes innocence, purity, and cheerfulness
Truly a one of a kind
A pretty prima facie
There are none other that the beautiful gerbera daisy

Pink, white, yellow, or purple
Drifting in the tide
This one never craves to hind
Across the ponds
Travel over waves
Even in some lakes
Catch the morning due
Seeing one makes me smiley
There are none other than the wondrous water lily

wishing upon a star

I’m in a field staring up at the beautiful diamond sky. A chill runs through the crisp air. Bumps rise on my upper and lower arms. One is suspiciously large and itchy. The culprit is confirmed, as a mosquito lands on my forearm. Its wings don’t have a chance to twitch before my hand takes over and smacks it. The mosquito leaves a dark red circle in its place. My mind runs through the questions that only matter to a curious mind. Was the blood left on my arm from the mosquito, the blood it stole from me, or the blood it stole from a different victim? Did the mosquito have a family? Did it get a last thought? What was that last thought? Is there a bug heaven? These are only questions that matter in the most curious mind of all. Mine. Eventually my mind bunny trails back to the freckled sky. Most wouldn’t think that my arm and the sky would be similar, but like the sky my arm is dotted. The difference between my dots and the sky’s is that mine are close bumps that are cold, where the sky’s are far away spheres that are made of fire. My eyes explore the night sky. They notice a special star. A star my father referred to as a wishing star. I close my eyes, fold my hands, and make a quick prayer. Once they open the star is gone, but a buzz runs across my thigh as my phone rings. My mom calls me to say dad has made a miraculous recovery. She hangs up. I slowly put my phone down. I look up once more the star is back. More brightly shining this time. Out loud I have to pray. “Thank you, for healing my world”.

a journey worth traveling

Lea was the best hunter in her tribe. She was only 13, but everyone knew she would be important. They didn’t know when. They didn’t know how. They could just feel the little girl would be important. Her mother had made her a pair of wolf fur boots and jacket. The wolf was a very respected animal for Lea’s people.
One day a traveler arrived at the camp. He was badly wounded. The people knew right away, he was of the hawk tribe. He had a hawk feather and two beads in his hair. One bead blood red the other crow black. He had come to warn them of a terrible evil that had risen. A giant bear, that destroyed anyone and anything in its’ path. Suddenly the people of the wolf tribe remembered a legend that had been started since the first people in their land shot the first meal.
“There is a beast of destruction to be born. It will wipe out all. From people to people, our world will slowly disappear. Yet, the daughter of a great nation will bring down the beast. With her wits and her skill.” One of Lea’s friends recited the legend as if she has never forgotten it. Right then Lea came out of her hut. She had been working on a new arrow when she heard the legend recited. When she came out her arrow started glowing. For, the God of the heaven and earth had given a sign saying she was the one.
The next day she packed her bow and arrows in a large thin cylinder shaped bag that hung from her back. Her mother had packed her extra food. So she wouldn’t waste her energy hunting for rabbits instead of the bear. As she left, her people watched and her friends counted her every step. Praying she would execute the evil beast and return unharmed.
A week has gone by before Lea finally found the giant bear. It had grown since the traveler had seen it on his way to warn the tribes. The evil being was killing a deer in one swipe, when Lea actually got a good look at it. The bear sniffed the air. It sensed Lea’s presents. She drew her bow and took aim at the beast. But before she could take down the horrid monster. It let out a frightening roar that made Lea barley hit his shoulder. Swiping at the arrow that grew from his shoulder, it started to charge toward Lea. She ran out of the way into a field. The bear caught up to her and clawed at her feet. Lea flew sideways and slammed into a tree. The force of the hit almost broke her arm. She couldn’t move. She ached too much. Yet, she knew if she didn’t take down the beast now it would kill her, and continue destroying their world, as they knew it. The beast Charged again. In agony, Lea drew an arrow and took aim. It took all the energy she had left to pull back the arrow and take out the beast. As soon as the arrow left her grasp, she collapsed. The world faded around her. Before everything was dark, Lea heard the terrifying screech of the monster.
When Lea awoke, she found herself in the presence of the barracuda people. They were rejoicing. For, the great bear was dead. They fed Lea some breakfast, and packed a sack full of the bear’s skins for a trophy. The people sent a good hunter with her since she was still a little weak. Lea got home safely. All the tribes gathered to have a two-week celebration. Because not only had Lea destroyed an evil bear, she had brought peace between the tribes.
