Flowers

Delicate petals
With a sharp defense
A pleasured fragrance
Dark green leaves that catch the sun
Vibrant red pedals catch the eye
Ready to bloom in July
This wonderful find is to be shared
They stay strong, even when the wind blows
These are none other than the magnificent rose

All different colors
Made from the rainbow
In the moving air, the petals flow
Known for its beauty
Possibly among loved ones favorites
Symbolizes innocence, purity, and cheerfulness
Truly a one of a kind
A pretty prima facie
There are none other that the beautiful gerbera daisy

Pink, white, yellow, or purple
Drifting in the tide
This one never craves to hind
Across the ponds
Travel over waves
Even in some lakes
Catch the morning due
Seeing one makes me smiley
There are none other than the wondrous water lily

wishing upon a star

I’m in a field staring up at the beautiful diamond sky. A chill runs through the crisp air. Bumps rise on my upper and lower arms. One is suspiciously large and itchy. The culprit is confirmed, as a mosquito lands on my forearm. Its wings don’t have a chance to twitch before my hand takes over and smacks it. The mosquito leaves a dark red circle in its place. My mind runs through the questions that only matter to a curious mind. Was the blood left on my arm from the mosquito, the blood it stole from me, or the blood it stole from a different victim? Did the mosquito have a family? Did it get a last thought? What was that last thought? Is there a bug heaven? These are only questions that matter in the most curious mind of all. Mine. Eventually my mind bunny trails back to the freckled sky. Most wouldn’t think that my arm and the sky would be similar, but like the sky my arm is dotted. The difference between my dots and the sky’s is that mine are close bumps that are cold, where the sky’s are far away spheres that are made of fire. My eyes explore the night sky. They notice a special star. A star my father referred to as a wishing star. I close my eyes, fold my hands, and make a quick prayer. Once they open the star is gone, but a buzz runs across my thigh as my phone rings. My mom calls me to say dad has made a miraculous recovery. She hangs up. I slowly put my phone down. I look up once more the star is back. More brightly shining this time. Out loud I have to pray. “Thank you, for healing my world”.

a journey worth traveling

Lea was the best hunter in her tribe. She was only 13, but everyone knew she would be important. They didn’t know when. They didn’t know how. They could just feel the little girl would be important. Her mother had made her a pair of wolf fur boots and jacket. The wolf was a very respected animal for Lea’s people.
One day a traveler arrived at the camp. He was badly wounded. The people knew right away, he was of the hawk tribe. He had a hawk feather and two beads in his hair. One bead blood red the other crow black. He had come to warn them of a terrible evil that had risen. A giant bear, that destroyed anyone and anything in its’ path. Suddenly the people of the wolf tribe remembered a legend that had been started since the first people in their land shot the first meal.
“There is a beast of destruction to be born. It will wipe out all. From people to people, our world will slowly disappear. Yet, the daughter of a great nation will bring down the beast. With her wits and her skill.” One of Lea’s friends recited the legend as if she has never forgotten it. Right then Lea came out of her hut. She had been working on a new arrow when she heard the legend recited. When she came out her arrow started glowing. For, the God of the heaven and earth had given a sign saying she was the one.
The next day she packed her bow and arrows in a large thin cylinder shaped bag that hung from her back. Her mother had packed her extra food. So she wouldn’t waste her energy hunting for rabbits instead of the bear. As she left, her people watched and her friends counted her every step. Praying she would execute the evil beast and return unharmed.
A week has gone by before Lea finally found the giant bear. It had grown since the traveler had seen it on his way to warn the tribes. The evil being was killing a deer in one swipe, when Lea actually got a good look at it. The bear sniffed the air. It sensed Lea’s presents. She drew her bow and took aim at the beast. But before she could take down the horrid monster. It let out a frightening roar that made Lea barley hit his shoulder. Swiping at the arrow that grew from his shoulder, it started to charge toward Lea. She ran out of the way into a field. The bear caught up to her and clawed at her feet. Lea flew sideways and slammed into a tree. The force of the hit almost broke her arm. She couldn’t move. She ached too much. Yet, she knew if she didn’t take down the beast now it would kill her, and continue destroying their world, as they knew it. The beast Charged again. In agony, Lea drew an arrow and took aim. It took all the energy she had left to pull back the arrow and take out the beast. As soon as the arrow left her grasp, she collapsed. The world faded around her. Before everything was dark, Lea heard the terrifying screech of the monster.
When Lea awoke, she found herself in the presence of the barracuda people. They were rejoicing. For, the great bear was dead. They fed Lea some breakfast, and packed a sack full of the bear’s skins for a trophy. The people sent a good hunter with her since she was still a little weak. Lea got home safely. All the tribes gathered to have a two-week celebration. Because not only had Lea destroyed an evil bear, she had brought peace between the tribes.

tick tick boom

My alarm clock rings. I get up as fast as I can, thinking to myself “today’s the day” over and over. Get dressed, brush my teeth, take a shower, and put on coat, shoes, and watch. Out the door I go. I hop on my bike and ride to school, a mile away. Geez it’s tough in the morning for a middle school spy. Ha, ha I forgot to tell you. My name is Whitney, and I attend Bad Gadget Middle School (aka B.G.M school). It’s hidden under a strip mall in New Jersey. My great-great grandfather founded this school after meeting my great-great grandmother. Anyways back to why today is so important. Now, only about half the 8th grade usually passes the final simulation exam. But lately rumors have been going around that the team with the best score will get an extra prize for graduating top of the class. On my team- Chloe: bomb defuse expert, Jake: navigation wiz, John: computer geek, Whitney: kick-butt pro. The simulation exam is a test that takes place in a white simulation room, every team has a different mission, and if they fail their assignment then they don’t graduate and get held back in a special class called 8th ½ grade. And let me tell you, if you get into that class, good luck graduating B.G.H School (high school).  I meet up with my team. “What’s up girlfriend” yelled out Chloe. We always make fun of the girls we see on TV. Jake and John did their cool handshake. Jake gave me a high five and laughed. John half smiled. Chloe just winked at me. I was so confused, why is everyone being weird. Well that can wait. The assistant principle came on the speaker. “Team W.J.C.J to the simulator please, your exam is ready”. We all were more nervous than we ever have been before. The room we were in suddenly filled with a green grid and everything turned to the h.q. of the most wanted mastermind of the country. Jake and Chloe went to the vents and worked on getting in. in no time the front gate whooshed open without a sound. We all started to run down the corridors. We all stopped to check our map, when suddenly a hand reached out for me. I grabbed it, shifted my weight, threw him over my shoulder, twisted his arm, and landed my knee on his back. Jack quickly retrieved the guards’ weapon. When we looked up guards had their hands out reached. Next thing I knew we were in the control room. Which is also where we needed to be. Guards surrounded us. I winked at Jake. We went back-to-back locked arms. He lifted me and started spinning. I started kicking and all the guards took a kick to the head, knocking them out. Suddenly the computers started beeping. Bombs were about to go off, in every huge city of the world. John worked his magic. The computer shouted, “10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2 bombs deactivated” we all started cheering. A huge object came up from the ground. It was the last and final bomb we didn’t know about. Chloe went strait to it and opened it up. Wires everywhere, but this was a simple red or blue wire cut. Problem was Chloe forgot which to cut. “Red, no blue, no red” she kept saying. She wasn’t sure but she guested blue. It stopped counting down. The room turned back to a green grid. The principle came on the speaker “congratulations! You have passed with flying colors”. We rejoiced. Chloe gave everyone a hug. John got a little longer hug. I noticed Jake was looking at me. He got a really cute twinkle in his eye. Chloe giggled. John chuckled. Jake hit him on the shoulder. John and Chloe left the room talking about strategy. Jake and I talked about the mission. I started to get this really weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was like my insides were turning to smoothies then fluttering away. Jake started stuttering. The green grid appeared again. For some reason, I could tell it was Chloe and John in the control room. It went from a green grid to a beautiful sunset scene. I could see it in Jakes eyes that he wanted to punch John in the nose, but at the same time he wanted to thank him. Jake started running his mouth about the last two years. He took in a big sigh and leaned in and whispered in my ear “I love you!” Finally we locked eyes. Not just to have good manners or because we were friends. No, it was a much deeper. Like we were supposed to do something. Something we both wanted to do for a long time. We leaned together. My lips touched his. Both our eyes closed. I guess Chloe and John planned the whole thing, because without our attention the scene turned back to a room. She came on the intercom saying “about time. We were starting to think you two would just hug and leave.” Laughing came from the speaker. Jakes face turned cherry red and mine felt lava hot. We smiled. I put my hand in his. He gave an extra large grin. We walked out of the simulation room. My mom was waiting for us out side the door. Her arms were crossed and her face was angry. It stinks sometimes when your mom is the head principal. “Jake M, Kingslie. I am so disappointed…” her anger turned to a grin “that you kissed her without a date”. Jake let out a sigh of relief. I giggled. He looked at me again, then at my mom. She looked at him, sending a silent message, she left. He quick kissed me on the cheek. “I saw that” my mom exclaimed. “I swear she has eyes in the back of her head” I said giggling. Jake walked me to my dorm room so I could start packing for summer vacation. Fortunately, we live near Jake. I took one last look at my new, and first boyfriend. Soaking in every detail of his face, I noticed a new twinkle to his eye. I walked into my room. Put my back to the door. Bad Gadget High, look out.

Prom

Marcie and Lexie were walking home when Will and Mason passed by. The two boys seem to know they would come this way. Everyone stared at each other till the boys disappeared around the corner. Weak in the knees, the two girls couldn’t believe that the two cutest boys in the eleventh grade actually looked at them. Lexie looked down and noticed a little folded piece of paper. She picked it up. Unfolding the white scrap, only to find out it’s not just a scrap. “What’s it say, what’s it say” exclaimed Marcie.

“It says and I quote, you girls have to meet us at the street theater in Town Square at about 6:00. We have a surprise for you.
-W&M”.
They rushed home. The two girls prettied themselves up and ran out the door. By the time they got to town square it was 6:00. At the street theater there was a weird metal structure on the wall. On the roof stood the two boys. Half smiles stretched across their faces. Curiosity filled the girls minds. Mason kicked at something that was too hard to see. Suddenly bright, BRIGHT, lights that made the night glow.  Yet the sight still sent tears to the surface of the girls’ eyes.
Prom.
Lexie pulled out her phone and took the best picture of her life. Megan noticed another note on the ground. It had a phone number she had it on speaker as it rang. One of the boys answered. “YES” they shouted through the phone.
THE END.

Vixie (cont.)

I started to walk back to my room, but stopped.
“No, tell me what I can’t know.” My parents looked at each other. I could tell they were thinking about it.
“Vixie, get your jacket and meet me in the garage.” Said my dad. So I got my jacket and put on my shoes. It was kind of cold outside.
Once I was at the garage, I started feeling excited. I walked inside to find my dad standing in the middle of the cold concrete floor. He took a remote out of his pocket, and pushed a button. Everything started to spin… literally. The walls spun around revealing screens, weapons, buttons, and some machines. To this day, my favorite machine is the one that makes fake IDs and passports. Anyways, I walked around looking at all the cool stuff. Then I got to a dusty bookshelf. I pulled out a book that had the title The Life of a CoveOps Agent.
“Now that book you are holding, is the simplest way to describe what me and your mother do for work.”
“You guy are spies!” I was so astonished. Questions immediately filled my brain. “Can you do karate? Do you see the world? How long is an average mission?”
“Vixie, settle down”
“Is there even more cool gadgets?”
“Vixie!”
“Will I be a spy too?” that question made him look at me concerned. Then he looked at me and said, “If you think you can handle it.” He smiled. I smiled. Then we laughed,  and went inside.

Vixie

Have you ever wondered what really is out in the world? I certainly have, but you would think I haven’t even wondered that. Mainly because, well, I’m a spy in training… kind of. I’ll never forget the story about how I came to know my parents true job, the story that started it all. Perhaps you want to hear the story? Of course you do.
Well, it all started with a simple “Good night, Vixie” that my mom told me when I went to bed. I slumped down the hallway to my room, to give the impression that I really was tired, and going to bed. I was pretty confident that they believed me.
Once I was in my room, I slipped into some pajama pants and a tang top. I got into bed and listened for the TV channel to change to the local news.
After the weatherman came on, I counted to 30 and quietly slipped out from under my warm covers. My body told my mind that it wanted the warm comforter back, but I resisted.
I knew my parents would be sitting on the couch watching for any breaking news. I also knew that there was a floorboard in the hallway that creaked every time you stepped on it.  I knew the exact location of it, but it was hard to get around it without being seen or heard. Only one side of the hallway was completely dark with shadows. Usually I just stayed in the shadows just before the squeaky floorboard, but tonight was different, my parents were talking about… me.
“Mason, I don’t think she is ready yet. We can’t tell her.” I don’t know about most girls, but at that moment I needed to get closer.
“We might never have a chance like this again. Rachel she has to know.”
I stood up knowing full well that they still wouldn’t be able to see me. The shadows are really thick in the hallway. I crept closer. An eerie creek filled the house. I looked down. How could I have been so sloppy? I had just stepped on the bad floorboard. I looked back up. My parents were looking in my direction.
“Go to bed Vixie.”

Find out what happens to Vixie next week. Until next time, keep your mind wide open!

Curiosity

A sight of wonder is towering over us. Beautiful is the sight of a stunning full moon. Mixed with the suspicious cry of the great wolf, calling to his friend. I sit there wondering what I did to deserve the chance to see such a gorgeous view. Why should I be able to experience this wonderful scene? With the ruff wind tossing my hair, I walk towards the immensely huge trees above. At the tree line I stop.
“What’s in there?” I asked myself. I have never had the courage to pass the first tree. I take one more step. Suddenly a howl fills the cold, dark, tasteless air. Once again my fear takes over. Taking a step back I see the enormous, beautiful full moon once again. Questions fill my curious mind once again. In amazement of the wonderful full moon I take five steps closer into the trees, and all life in it. Buzzing in my ear, a mosquito tries to taste the blood from my skin. I wander into the tall towering trees. Another howl rings through the sky. Clinging to a tree’s wide trunk, I think about going back. I look back at the mesmerizing moon, and take a few more steps.
By now I’ve been walking for at least 5 minutes. The trees start to thin as a clearing comes into sight. I decided I have walked far enough, for it was dark and I did not want to get lost. I find a break in a thick tree and settle in that spot. I pull out my notebook and pencils out of the pocket on the inside of my jacket to jot down some thoughts. Another howl slices through the air, but this time it was chased by different howls. I look up from my work stopping the dancing my pencil was doing across my paper. Running across the clearing was a pack of wolfs. The last one stopped and sniffed the air. The clearing wasn’t that big but if it started at me I could climb up into my tree as high as I could go. The beautiful animal stopped in mid sniff. Putting my notebook and pencil into my jacket I got prepared to start climbing. I found a hole that would fit my jacket. The wolf turned its sleek head. Frozen from the sight of the gleaming eyes. Turned into a steam locomotive, my heart was racing across the country. The wolf finally ran after its family. I now go to that clearing every full moon to see my mystery friend. To this day I still wonder why the wolf stops to see me
